Hello! Welcome to Evangeline’s Portfolio, which has an overview of different projects we completed in Digital Arts 2024. Projects include new technology news, as well as custom music remixes!

These projects display my skills with audio editing as well as photoshopping and digital arts. I made my poster using three platforms, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and also Procreate. The elements on the poster represent the songs I chose, and also detail the different remixes. Further, I used Adobe to mix many different audio tracks.

Salvatore (Lana Del Rey)

In this remix, I replaced the original soundtrack with orchestral one, as well as added more echo to allow the song to sound more angelic! I kept the original voice, but made it quieter at certain points so the orchestra could be heard more.

Can’t Catch Me Now (Hunger Games)

This remix was inspired by a newly released song from the Hunger Games which Maya and I went to watch together. I changed the voice so that it sounded more distant, and had an 8D effect to it. At certain points, the sound gets more distant, and in other places, the voice appears closer. I wanted to add these effects because the song itself was about Lucy Gray who went missing, but her songs can still be heard!

Heather X Traitor (Conan Gray + Olivia Rodrigo)

Although I don’t listen to these songs as much anymore, I remixed these songs because they were nostalgic and reminded me off when I was in Grade 7! I mixed two songs together, Heather and Traitor, because I thought the songs had similar meanings and rhythms. I kept Heather’s soundtrack in the back, but alternated the different voices when I felt like there was a good transition.

Original Songs:

These are the embeds of the songs before I made changes to them (for reference)

Misinformation Campaign Project

My first flexible project was my Critical Thinking and Communications misinformation campaign (22 minute video). This project was made to represent what a biased news source looks like, and the language they would use to spread misinformation. I used a new software named Flexclip to edit together the videos we filmed. I spent approximately 4 hours editing this project on Flexclip, and used my abilities to make transitions, news labels, audio, and editing the quality of the videos so that the video would look similar to that of an actual news source.

Astronomy Project

My second flexible project was my astronomy project we created in science. In this website, I used Google Sites to create a detailed website which had multiple pages about the process of planet hunting/finding exoplanets! This demonstrated my skills my embedding in pictures, links, photos, and creating websites online. This platform was used to communicate what I have learned on planets in our science unit!

#1 Chip-making giant, Nvidia, surpasses Apple in value

Summary: Nvidia, a giant chip-making firm, has surpassed Apple in value! It has surpassed over $3tn dollars. The firm’s share price rose more than 5% on Wednesday, to more than $1,224! This means that Nvidia has just beat Apple, and is now second place, becoming one of the world’s most valued tech companies. Microsoft is currently in first place, but with Nvidia’s rapid growth (earning one trillion dollars in 3 months), they are quickly catching up to first place. Currently, the AI market is in a frenzy, with the market constantly adapting and hard to catch up. However, Nvidia continues to show business momentum, where despite the worry that demands for chips will slow, it has not slowed down yet. Analysts comment on this, by stating that they expect Nvidia to stay dominant for 3-5 years.

Personal Opinion: In my opinion, I believe that we are heading into an “AI revolution”, where lots of big tech companies (like OpenAI or Apple) are rushing to the top, and trying to outdo each other. This means that many new models are being adapted, but also that the market itself for AI is constantly adapting and changing. Although this means that it might be hard for tech companies to keep up with, seeing as a lot of this technology requires chips, and Nvidia is a good and trustworthy source, I believe that Nvidia will continue to steadily grow. For example, in the video, they mentioned that hundreds of thousands of chips are needed for X-AI to build a super-computer that they want to build, and thats only for one buyer.

As the AI Market continues to grow, with many more companies and nations from around the world joining in, I think that the AI market would be a good place to invest in. However, I believe there are also some concerns when it comes to ethics, considering the growing amount of deepfakes that are coming along with AI. I think that when it comes to AI, specific boundaries should always be set as to which areas we should research in, and which ones we shouldn’t. Another pressing concern would also be automatization, where many jobs are also being taken by AI.

#2 More useful AI

Summary: After an Oxford study which showed that barely anyone uses AI on a daily basis, chatbots and developers have started give out new features. For example, OpenAI just gave all users the feature to upload images and documents in an attempt to attract new users. As well, ChatGPT launched a new program named ChatGPT Edu, which gives discounts to schools to convince them to use it for teaching and learning. Further, OpenAI has supposedly signed a deal for it’s AI to be incorporated into the next Apple technology. Lastly, TikTok is also apparently working on an algorithm to make sure that TikTok won’t be banned in the US. However, many bills are currently being passed to ban phones in school.

Personal Opinion: In my opinion, I think that this quick expansion of AI into all of these fields could be dangerous. Although I recognize that this could help a lot of people, I don’t believe that it would benefit children in terms of education. Even right now, a lot of scholars are using AI, especially ChatGPT to cheat. This means that once ChatGPT begins making more of their features accessible, and even giving discount packets and encouraging schools to use them, then it makes it far easier for students to avoid actual learning and instead use chatbots to do their homework. Even if sometimes, AI can be a tool for learning, I believe that the further development of AI in this field could be more harmful than helpful.

On the contrary, I believe there should be less restrictions being put on apps like TikTok, and for phones to not be banned in schools. As a student myself, I often need to call my mom, or research certain information on my phone (for example, I use my phone a lot when it comes to science to easily take pictures of my lab and record data), and it’s important for emergencies. I think we should allow for teachers to confiscate phones if they are used in classrooms, but during breaks, I don’t see why students shouldn’t be able to have their phones.
