Description: Gemini has different modes of “response” you can put it on. When you put it on “thinking” mode, it takes more time to solve complex problems/questions. For example, using thinking mode, you can make a high level quiz to study with.

Discussion: I use Gemini Thinking Mode to study for my upcoming Math tests. By simply inputting the prompt shown on the left of the image, it will give me an interactive, multiple-choice quiz. It also can provide a hint for help and also an explanation of the answer if you got it wrong.

Description: Deepseek AI is similar to ChatGPT, and can provide quick answers to any questions.

Discussion: I use Deepseek AI especially for physics class, when I’m trying to find an explanation for a concept I want to better understand. I don’t think it’s that different from ChatGPT, but it still works very well to help explain things.

Description: Meta AI is again very similar to ChatGPT, acting as an AI assistant for anything.

Discussion: I like using Meta AI, more than ChatGPT in some cases, since it provides tools for free that with ChatGPT you would have to pay for, like image analysis and creation. Although I don’t create images often, I like to use Meta AI to help describe what is happening in a diagram or image for school, for example for Biology.

Description: Claude is an AI chatbot similar to others like ChatGPT and Deepseek.

Discussion: I find that Claude is more personalized to what your interests are or what you want to use it for. Also, you can connect many tools to Claude, such as Paypal and Messages, which I don’t think you can do with ChatGPT, at least not in the free version. Although I haven’t tried connecting these tools yet, I think that its very useful to have and I will definitely be trying them in the future.

Description: NotebookLM is an AI study tool by Google that lets you upload your own notes, slides, or readings and then uses that material to help you summarize and understand it. It can turn the content from class into study guides, and it can summarize it as well.

Discussion: I think NotebookLM is really useful for studying because it actually works with what you already have from class instead of explaining topics with random information. I also like that it can turn your notes into summaries or questions, which helps with active recall. I use it a lot for biology, because I find it most helpful for this class.

Description: Goblin Tools is an AI tool that helps you break big tasks into smaller, easier steps. You can put in something like an essay or project, and it will turn it into a simple checklist.

Discussion: I think Goblin Tools is really helpful for school because big assignments can feel overwhelming sometimes. It makes things easier by showing you exactly what to do step by step. I like that it doesn’t do the work for you, it just helps you get started and stay organized.

Description: This article discusses how up and coming AI models could begin to “reinvent the film and TV production”. AI could make the entire process of film production efficient and quick, taking the workload and time off of human producers and film directors. AI-assisted storyboarding, 3D modeling for sets, and camera path planning can shorten the length of physical production, including reshoots, which can often be costly. The article states that studio executives expect as much as 80 to 90 percent efficiency gains in VFX (visual effects) and 3D asset creation (digital representation of objects, characters, etc.). All of this being said, according to the article, even as technology reshapes the production process, experts emphasize continuity in one area: storytelling itself.

Discussion: I think the improvements being made by AI in the efficiency and speed of film production are definitely useful and beneficial to the movie-making industry. As mentioned above, it can cut the costs and time of production. The most worrying part of having AI used in the film industry, to me, is the idea that maybe it could take away from real actors and storylines, changing movies completely. The new presence of AI in this industry also jeopardises the number of entertainment jobs there are available. The article stated, and I agree, that AI models should be used only to augment roles, not replace them. All in all, I think that AI can absolutely be useful to the film industry, but it should only be used when it doesn’t risk the quality or “humanization” of films.

Description: In this article, there are many photo comparisons between what the AI-generated images of the Iran war look like, compared to the actual footage captured. The article states that “What used to require professional video production can now be done in minutes with AI tools”. Additionally, with the abilities of AI rapidly expanding, it is increasingly hard to tell between whether the video is real or fake. The people who are creating these fake AI videos are able to profit a very big amount of money from all the comments, likes and shares they receive. Many people have turned to social media for quick news on the topic, and this is exactly where they find these false videos, which can spread misinformation, panic or mistrust.

Discussion: I think this is very concerning, especially since it isn’t easy to tell if the news is actually true or not. Personally, I get a lot of my information from social media, so there is a big chance that I can come across one of these videos and not even know that what I’m seeing is fake. It’s scary to see how quickly false information can be spread with the use of these AI videos, and also how hard it is to prevent the creation of them, since AI tools are so cheap and easy to use nowadays. Overall, I think that it’s worrying how unpredictable the information and videos that pop up on social media are, and how everything at this point has to be verified to be true.

Description: This article covers the reality of how people are making money by selling their identities, daily life and personal messages to AI – and what dangers that might bring. Many companies are beginning to run out of high-quality text to train their models, such as Gemini and ChatGPT. While some labs have resorted to reusing the data their own AI creates as new training data, other apps like Kled and Silencio have millions of people who are monetizing their identities to feed and train the AI models. Direct data from humans is allowing these companies to receive high-quality data in order to model new, improved behaviours in their systems.

Discussion: The article mentions that many of the people who end up handing over their data to AI companies are people who are struggling economically already, and don’t have many other ways of earning money. Additionally, for people living in countries with high-unemployment and devalued currencies, earning US currency is often more stable than a regular, local job. Knowing this, it makes sense to me why people would be likely to sell their data – it’s not really any work, and you make some money. What I also believe, though, is that many people are unaware of the risks that selling their data only might provoke, and this can be dangerous. What is concerning is that AI marketplaces are very unclear about how and where users’ data will be deployed. For instance, people who are selling their data to Kled AI are granting permission to the company to sell, use, publicly display and store their likeness – and even create derivative works of them. That being said, the founder of Kled AI said that his company’s data agreements limit use to AI training and research purposes. In the end, I would personally not sell my data to AI models. I think there are definitely risks that people should be aware of when doing so, but that is my opinion and I think that it is the choice of other people if they want to do so or not.

Description: This article focuses on the two sides of the argument: whether AI should be used in job applications or not. BBC interviews a third-year business student Bhuvana Chilukuri, and also discusses the opinions of Denis Machuel, CEO of Adecco Group, which uses AI in candidate pre-screening. There is no final decision made over this topic (ex. “Using AI in job applications is bad”) by the end of the article, but it becomes clear that a combination of AI efficiency and human judgement can create the perfect system.

Discussion: Personally, I think that there should not be cases where businesses use solely AI to determine whether someone receives a job or not. In the article, Bhuvana Chilukuri states that “There are moments where I applied and I got a rejection less than two minutes later, which is really horrible.” I agree with Bhuvana, and it is also quite easy to tell when a company is using only AI for applications. On the other hand, I understand why companies may be inclined to use AI as part of the process. There are often hundreds (or more) applicants at a time, and it seems like unnecessary work to have a human sort through them all slowly when AI tools exist that will do it in minutes. Overall, I believe there should be a fair mix between using the judgement of AI versus humans in the job application process, and that AI should be only used at the right moments of the application, only when no harm would come from using it.

Description: This article looks at whether AI could replace lawyers in Canada and how it is already being used in the legal profession. AI can help with things like legal research, reviewing documents, and other routine tasks that normally take lawyers a lot of time. However, the article argues that there are still many parts of being a lawyer that AI cannot do, such as making ethical decisions, understanding complex situations, and building relationships with clients. It also discusses some concerns about AI, including the possibility of inaccurate information, privacy issues, and people becoming too dependent on the technology. Overall, the article suggests that AI will likely be used as a tool to help lawyers rather than replace them.

Discussion: I agree with the article that AI is more likely to change the way lawyers work than replace them completely. AI can be extremely useful for tasks such as reviewing documents and finding information quickly, which could save lawyers a lot of time. However, I think there are too many risks involved for AI to be trusted on its own. The example of the Vancouver lawyer who submitted fake cases generated by ChatGPT shows that AI can sound convincing even when it is wrong. I also think that legal decisions often involve emotions and unique circumstances that a computer cannot fully understand. If I needed legal advice, I would want someone with real experience and judgment helping me, not just an AI program. At the same time, I think lawyers should learn how to use AI because it could make their work more efficient and allow them to focus more on helping clients. Overall, I believe AI will become an important tool in the legal profession, but human lawyers will continue to play the most important role.

Description: The Gemini Certification validates your ability to safely, responsibly, and effectively utilize Google’s AI tools.

Discussion: This was completed in PEAKS block, and I found it very interesting to learn about Gemini and how it should be used responsibly, as well as the several tools that accompany it. I will definitely be using the knowledge that I acquired from taking this test in the future, just to be aware of how I am using AI, and if I am using it safely.
