Tech News:

#1 – Neuralink Chip

Summary:

This video shows the story of the first-ever human to receive a Neuralink chip implant. Neuralink is a new technology created and developed by Elon Musk. It comes in the form of a chip that is implanted into one’s brain. The goal of this technology is for it to read people’s brain waves and perform actions based on what they’re thinking. For example, someone would turn their light switch off in their head, and their Neuralink connected to their smart home technology would turn it off, without the person having to move at all. In this video, a man named Noland Arbaugh shows us exactly how he uses the chip in his day to day life. Noland is a quadriplegic man who became handicapped after a diving incident. He spent years confined in his home with infinite free time, but nothing to fill this time with. Now, thanks to the neuralink chip, he is capable of controlling a computer with his brain. He can do almost everything from playing chess to listening to music, just by using his brain to control the cursor. Unfortunately, there was a small issue where the threads in the chip retracted. Before he was able to get this issue repaired, it was difficult for him to adjust back to his life prior to this technology, however, the scientists behind Neuralink were able to resolve the issue and get him a new chip.

Personal Commentary:

I think this technology is going to become one of the biggest leaps in tech history. Once it gets further developed, we are going to see it used more frequently in workspaces, at home and in everyone’s day-to-day life. I find it especially inspiring that it’s helped the life of a handicapped person, and hopefully, it can help many more disabled people perform actions and tasks that they struggle with in their daily lives. I do however, fear for how this technology can be used negatively in the future. The neuralink could potentially cause harm to people’s brains or bodies, as there hasn’t been enough research for us to see these effects yet. The government or other third-party associations could hack into the chip and access extremely personal information (or even read your thoughts) through your brain waves, which could be extremely dangerous. Additionally, this technology can become extremely addictive and people can lose connection with the real world. They will begin relying so heavily on this technology to do everything for them, that we will almost be living in a world of robots. We will end up seeing the effects of what people feared with VR happening with the Neuralink chip.

#2 – New iPhone 16

Summary:

In this video, we explore the features coming to the new iPhone 16, expected to launch this September in multiple different models. They are rumoured to have a larger display, a new “capture” button, and new camera technology while keeping the square camera bump. Apple is also currently upgrading the chips used in iPhones as well as the wifi and service connection for the iPhone 16. The iphone camera technology will feature better zooming-in and zooming-out possibilities, along with a coating over the lens which will deflect excessive shinign and lens flaring, allowing for better photo quality. The new iphone will use the usb-c port, like the iphone 15, but with a better battery life.

Personal Commentary:

I believe that while these new features will improve the user’s experience, I don’t think these changes will make a significant difference. Apple releases a new iphone model every year, and with that comes plenty of old iphones thrown away and wasted. I think apple should slow down their releases and focus on making drastic improvements that are well distinguished from the rest of their models. Right now, it feels like the only people buying the new models are people who want to show off their iphones. It’s unnecessary and wastes important resources, contributing to climate change and the consumerism industry.
