Tech Article #1

Smartphone addiction is a growing concern, especially among teens and young adults. People spend hours each day scrolling through apps, often at the expense of face-to-face communication, sleep, and their mental health. Studies show that excessive phone use can lead to anxiety, depression, and reduced attention spans. Many health professionals are now advocating for digital detoxes and limits on screen time.

I think smartphone addiction is a serious problem that we often overlook. It’s easy to get lost in endless scrolling, especially when apps are designed to keep us hooked. I’ve noticed how it can affect my focus during school and my sleep at night. I believe setting screen time limits and taking regular breaks can help.

Tech Article #2

Artificial intelligence (AI) is being increasingly utilized in education, from personalized learning platforms to grading software. These tools help teachers save time and allow students to work at their own pace. However, critics worry that over-reliance on AI could replace human educators and reduce meaningful teacher-student interactions. Ethical concerns around data privacy and fairness also remain.

I believe AI in education can be beneficial, but we shouldn’t rely on it too heavily. Learning is more than just answering questions — teachers give us emotional support and guidance that machines can’t. AI can accelerate learning, but it shouldn’t replace genuine connections in the classroom. We need to use it as a tool, not a substitute.

Tech Article #3

Social media platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Snapchat have become integral to daily life, particularly for teenagers. While they help people stay connected, they can also lead to problems like cyberbullying, low self-esteem, and anxiety. Many users compare themselves to unrealistic images online, leading to body image issues. Experts suggest setting boundaries and promoting positive online behaviour.

In my opinion, social media can be both fun and harmful. It’s great for talking with friends, but sometimes it makes me feel like I’m not good enough. Seeing perfect pictures and fake lifestyles can mess with your confidence. Let’s learn how to use it mindfully and not let it control how we feel about ourselves.

T’s Tees

This screenshot shows a collection of t-shirt mockups for T’s Tees, a t-shirt company I started, featuring a variety of original designs displayed on different models. Each shirt showcases a unique graphic or logo, with styles ranging from bold text to creative artwork. The models are wearing the shirts in different poses, giving a clear view of how the designs look when worn. The image highlights the brand’s versatility and visual appeal, making it easy to imagine the shirts in a real-world setting.

Technology News Stories

Story 1 – Amazon is reportedly training humanoid robots to deliver packages

https://www.theverge.com/news/680258/amazon-training-package-delivery-humanoid-robots

Summary:
Amazon is advancing towards deploying humanoid robots for package delivery, as reported by The Information. The company is developing AI software to enable these robots to operate within Rivian electric vans, which will serve as their transport. A newly constructed “humanoid park” at an Amazon office in San Francisco will facilitate training for these robots, which are intended to autonomously deliver packages after hitching rides in Amazon vans. This initiative aligns with Amazon’s broader efforts to enhance automation in distribution and logistics through versatile, AI-powered robotic systems.

My Prespective:
As a student interested in innovation and technology, I think Amazon’s move toward using humanoid robots for package delivery is both exciting and concerning. On one hand, it’s impressive to see how far robotics and AI have come, being able to train a robot to ride in a van and deliver a package sounds like something out of science fiction. It shows how fast the tech industry is moving and how these advancements could make things more efficient. But at the same time, I can’t ignore the human side of it. This kind of automation could replace a lot of delivery jobs, which affects real people and their livelihoods. As someone who wants to use data and technology to help improve lives, I think it’s important that companies like Amazon also think about how to balance innovation with responsibility. Technology should move us forward, but not at the cost of leaving people behind.

Story 2 – Canadian technology could be used to mine the deep seas, but there’s growing alarm over the risks

https://www.cbc.ca/news/science/deep-sea-mining-impossible-metals-1.7551439

Summary:
Impossible Metals, a company with operations in Ontario and California, is developing underwater robotic technology to mine mineral-rich nodules from the Pacific Ocean seabed. The company claims its AI-powered robot, Eureka 2, will carefully avoid marine life and cause minimal disruption, offering a lower-impact solution for accessing critical minerals like cobalt and nickel used in electronics. However, many scientists and environmental experts are sounding the alarm. A group of international researchers, writing in the journal Nature, are calling for a total ban on deep-sea mining, arguing that the potential environmental risks: such as carbon release, habitat destruction, and climate impact—far outweigh the uncertain benefits. Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an executive order to fast-track mining in U.S. waters, pushing forward the industry despite global debate and concerns.

My Perspective:
As a student who cares about the environment and the future of sustainable innovation, I’m really torn about this issue. On one hand, I understand the growing need for minerals to support cleaner technology, like batteries for electric vehicles and renewable energy. Companies like Impossible Metals claim they’ve built machines that can mine responsibly using AI, which sounds great in theory. But at the same time, it feels risky to mess with deep-sea ecosystems when we barely even understand them. The ocean plays a huge role in regulating the Earth’s climate, and disturbing the seabed could have long-term effects we’re not ready for. I think companies and governments need to slow down and put science and global cooperation first before rushing into mining just for profit. If we want to build a better future, we need to be sure we’re not destroying it in the process.

Story 3 – Okanagan tech company creates day-trading algorithm

https://globalnews.ca/news/7440859/okanagan-tech-company-day-trading-algorithm/#:~:text=A%20new%20Okanagan%2Dbased%20tech,.’s%20CEO%20and%20founder.

Summary:

An Okanagan-based tech company, 7 Cheetahs Trading Inc., has developed a fully automated day-trading algorithm designed to assist financial institutions, even those with minimal trading experience. Founded by Brian Shepard, who combined his technology background with a keen interest in the stock market, the software aims to execute trades on behalf of clients without requiring their direct involvement. Backed by approximately a dozen investors, the system is reportedly delivering consistent results and is scalable to manage substantial capital deployments. This innovation exemplifies the growing tech industry in the Okanagan region, which boasts around 700 companies and contributes approximately $1.7 billion annually to the local economy.

My Perspective:

As a student passionate about technology and its applications in finance, I find the development by 7 Cheetahs Trading Inc. both intriguing and inspiring. The idea of creating an automated trading system that allows institutions to participate in day trading without extensive expertise showcases the potential of combining tech skills with financial acumen. However, it also raises questions about the implications of such automation on market dynamics and employment within the trading sector. While the scalability and efficiency of the algorithm are impressive, it’s essential to consider the broader impact on the financial industry and ensure that such technologies are implemented responsibly.

New Technology Articles

Mario Kart World

With the release of teasers for Mario Kart World, there have been many concerns about the game. One concern is the gameplay. In this new game, Nintendo has chosen to make Mario Kart World an open-world game, meaning that it is one massive world that you can drive around. To add this concept into the gameplay, Nintendo made it so you must drive to the next track to race there which has raised some concerns. Firstly, there are a lot of straight lines. This could make the gameplay boring as there isn’t much to do. Luckily, Nintendo added a new mechanic, ground tricks. To perform a ground trick you must charge it up before releasing it. This offers a solution but by analysing the gameplay we can see that it is slower. This means that the fastest driving technique might just be going straight which is very boring. There are other concerns around the gameplay such as the drifting mechanics but I will dive deeper into them in my reflection.

Looking at the gameplay so far I do like the older Mario Kart 8 Deluxe more than Mario Kart World. Considering the fact that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is much more developed, I still believe that it is much more complex and fun. This is because the gameplay in Mario Kart World is much more simple due to some new game mechanics such as charge jumps and snaking being slower. This makes the long straights of Mario Kart World very boring in my opinion. Another reason I prefer Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is because of the drifting mechanics. In Mario Kart World the drifting mechanics seem to be very different. Firstly, they swing you out wide and have a weird bouncing animation. In my opinion, it just doesn’t seem as satisfying and interesting. I do understand that the gameplay is still unknown and may become much better, not to mention the new cool game mechanics allowing for awesome shortcuts. I do still have hope and don’t want to judge it too much as new techniques get discovered but so far I prefer Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Fusion Reactors

With the growing problem of energy, fusion reactors have been proposed as a source. Fusion reactors are basically mini suns, They produce lots of heat which we can turn into electricity. They work by heating up the hydrogen gas to the point where they lose their electrons. This makes the air charged allowing you to manipulate it using magnetic fields. This is called plasma. They then use the magnetic field to contain the plasma. Producing them are superconductors which are materials that have been cooled to near 0 kelvin making them lose all electrical resistance. This also allows them to produce very powerful magnetic fields which are useful. The magnetic field then compresses the hydrogen atoms while it gets heated to reach a high engine temperature for the hydrogen to fuse. Once we get to this point it should sustain itself, but it is much harder than it looks. Firstly, keeping an even magnetic field to compress the hydrogen is hard. Additionally, it is also very difficult to contain it. If it doesn’t perfectly contain it the fusion process would stop and halt the energy production. Furthermore, due to the extreme temperatures, the walls wear and may make it dangerous for fusion to be sustained for long periods. All these factors add up making it difficult to make a reliable and constant energy source from fusion reactors.

I think that there is lots of potential in technology and it will become the future of our energy production, but with the numerous problems that need to be solved, it will take some time. It will also solve the energy crisis as it will give us virtually unlimited energy, only limited by the amount of hydrogen. It would also unlock a new way to power our space travel. By implementing these on large space ships we could propel them efficiently and quickly. The only issue is how to store the hydrogen as it isn’t very dense. They could also allow for localised reactors to cut down transportation costs. It is also very clean, producing minerals like iron as a byproduct. With all these benefits I think it is only a matter of time before such technologies become widespread.

F1 25 Reverse Racing

In the new F1 game, F1 25, EA has introduced reverse racing. This is where instead of driving the track the normal way, you drive it in reverse. Unfortunately, this feature is only coming to 3 tracks, Zandvoort, Silverstone, and the Red Bull Ring. They will also be available in season 2 of my team career mode. This feature has made the need for new AI code to drive them in reverse as they are drastically different when driven the wrong way. They have also changed other things for this like the brake marker boards, pitlane, marshalls, tire marks and many more. This is a risk from EA as it may be met with mixed reactions.

From my side, I think that it is a good step for EA as in recent years they have been taking away features like short versions of tracks rather than adding them which wasn’t met with good reactions. Now they are adding reverse racing which shows that they might not only add more tracks and features but also bring back other features like the short versions of tracks and classic cars. I also think that it will add a new challenge and depth to the game as the characteristics of the track will change. Not to mention it will be a completely new track you have to learn. Overall I think that is a good change that will be met with positive feedback.

:Article 1

Summary: The  article is about if you should buy the new  2024 Apple Airpods. First it compares the price, the regular Airpods 4 costs ( without ANC) cost $129, the other Airpods 4 costs ( with ANC) costs $179. The two airpods are built the exact same, the only difference is the noise cancellation. There are slight differences in the charging cases but not a huge difference. These new Airpods 4 claim to be the most advanced and comfortable headphones the company has made with an open-ear design.

My opinion: I think that the Airpods 4 are definitely worth the money but if you have an older generation airpods then I don’t think you absolutely need to get them, However if you are looking for new headphones I would definitely look at the 2024 Airpods 4. One thing that I appreciate with the new model is that Apple scanned and mapped out different ear shapes to get a more accurate fit for many peoples ears.

Article 2

Summary: The article talks about which phone brand is better and which is a “bang for your buck”. The article breaks Samsung and Apple’s lineups into 3 categories, entry-level, mid level and high-level. It talks a lot about the different price ranges per brand, and  features that the article talks about are screen display, camera quality, battery life and more. Even though Samsung has a wider range then  iPhones and Apple products in general, In the US Apple has claimed 52% of the local smartphone market, while Samsung comes in 2nd place claiming 27%.

My opinion: I personally have never had a Samsung phone so I was wondering if I should look into getting one. As an Apple iPhone user, I really enjoy their iPhone 11. The camera quality is pretty good and so is the screen display. For Samsung I noticed their products are  more affordable and have better value than Apple products, plus the article says “ Samsung has a lot more to offer. I feel as though I am a little biassed because I haven’t personally experienced a Samsung Phone but when I do I can definitely share my thoughts in more detail.

Technology Editorials

Apple launched the Vision Pro in 2024 — a mixed reality headset that blends the digital and physical world. It uses high-resolution displays, eye tracking, and hand gestures to let users watch videos, work, and interact with 3D apps in a new way. Apple calls it a “spatial computer,” and it’s one of the most advanced headsets on the market. But it costs over $3,000, making it very expensive for most people. I think the Vision Pro looks super cool, but it feels more like a luxury toy than something people actually need. It’s amazing how you can open apps and videos in mid-air, but the price is way too high for students or regular families. I’d love to try one, but I think Apple should make a more affordable version if they want it to become popular.

The Humane AI Pin was released in 2024 as a new kind of wearable assistant. Instead of using a phone, users can clip this pin to their clothes and interact with it using voice, gestures, and a small projector. It connects to AI tools like ChatGPT and can answer questions, make calls, and translate speech. Some people think it’s the future of smartphones, while others say it’s too early and not very practical. I think the AI Pin is interesting but kind of unnecessary right now. It’s like a cool idea from a sci-fi movie, but I feel like most people will just keep using their phones. Maybe in the future it’ll be useful, but right now it seems like something tech fans would buy just to say they tried it.

In 2025, Samsung introduced the Galaxy Ring — a small smart ring that tracks your health. It monitors heart rate, sleep, and stress, and connects with the Samsung Health app. Unlike smartwatches, it’s very light and discreet. It’s part of a growing trend where tech companies are making health tracking devices smaller and more comfortable to wear all day and night. I actually like this idea. I don’t like wearing big watches, but I care about my health and sleep. A ring seems way easier to wear all the time. I’d consider buying something like this in the future if the price isn’t too high and it works well. It seems like a smart move from Samsung.
